Dorjee Lhatoo

Dorjee Lhatoo was born in 1941 in Yatung in Tibet. He married Tenzing Norgay’s niece, Sonam Doma. He reached the summit of Everest on 23 May, 1984 lead by D K Khullar with Bachendri Pal (first woman from India to summit) via the South East Ridge route. He is an ethnic Sherpa, born and brought up in Tibet. Dorjee Lhatoo served in the Indian Army before joining as instructor at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. He has also climbed Chomolhari, Nanda Devi and other peaks.
