The title of Emeritus is generally conferred upon a learned or senior person who retires from a position but continues to be honoured and respected for years of selfless and excellent service to a cause.

Dr. M. S. Gill, Past President of the Himalayan Club, has long and abiding interest in the Himalaya. He was the Deputy Commissioner for the state of Lahaul and Spiti (1961-62) and served a long stint in this remote area.
