Dr Vrinda Chinchwadkar was a nature lover, doting mother of two children and an active member of The Himalayan Club. She pursued her hobby of trekking while managing her family needs and medical practice alongside. She was a regular visitor to the Sahyadri forts and hills and participated in high altitude treks in Himalaya including Everest base camp, Sarpass, Goecha la, and Great Kashmir lakes trek, her last. Unfortunately, she died in a tragic road accident on the Pune-Mumbai expressway in 2013.
The Himalayan Club Pune section instituted the Dr Vrinda Chinchwadkar Memorial Lecture Series in 2015 in her memory, where in a woman mountaineer or trekker is invited to deliver a keynote address during Annual Program of Pune section in the month of April every year.
The speakers to have graced the occasion include Vinita Muni, Pallavi Vartak, Ushaprabha Page and Sucheta Kadethankar.
