CLUB PROCEEDINGS, 1966

The Thirty-eighth Annual General Meeting was held at the Calcutta Rowing Club, Calcutta, on December 14, 1966, at 7 p.m., for the purpose of:

  1. Confirming the Minutes of the Thirty-seventh Annual General Meeting held on December 29, 1965.
  2. Receiving the Committee's Report and Audited Accounts for the year ended December 31, 1965, and, if thought fit, passing them.
  3. Electing Officers, Members of the Committee and Additional Members of the Balloting Committee and making other appointments. In accordance with Rule 34, the Committee propose the following names:

After the meeting Mr. B. Biswas gave an illustrated lecture on the 1966 Mana Expedition. Thirty-six members and guests attended the function.

2. MEETINGS

Apart from the Annual General Meeting several meetings were organized at Delhi, Bombay and Calcutta.

During the early part of the year Lt.-Comdr. M. S. Kohli, leader of the successful 1965 Everest Expedition, toured India with several members of his team. He gave exceedingly well- illustrated lectures to our members and their guests at Delhi, Bombay and Calcutta.

3. LONDON REUNION

During the Reunion held on April 15, 1966, Mr. H. W. Tilman gave a most interesting talk illustrated by slides on his trips in ' MISCHIEF' to Greenland in 1946. Among those present were: Mr. V. S. 4. MEMBERSHIP

The Club's membership at the end of December, 1966, stands at 600 of whom 320 are Life Members and 5 are Honorary Members. The names of 25 Founder Members stand on the current Members' Register.

6. LIBRARY

During the year the Club's library was moved into excellent accommodation at the National Library premises. It is a separate building at Belvedere which not only accommodates our library, but forms a central location for the Club's records. A quantity of spare books and journals has now been moved to Bombay in order to establish a sub-library for the use of local members.

7. HIMALAYAN JOURNAL, VOL. XXVIII

All papers intended for publication should be forwarded to the Hon. Editor, Dr. K. Biswas, or the Hon. Assistant Editor, Mr. J. A. K. Martyn, 18 Nemi Road, Dehra Dun, U.P., India. It is requested that articles should be typewritten and preferably accompanied by sketch-maps ; these should be clearly drawn in Indian ink with references given, if possible, to the existing Survey Sheets. Photographs should be clear, with caption and definition as accurate and sharp as possible ; they should be at least half- page size, printed on glossy paper. The Editor will be glad to receive articles of general Himalayan interest and also on subjects other than climbing.

8. JOURNAL BACK NUMBERS

The only volumes now available for sale are Vols. XIX, XX, XXII, XXIII, XXV and XXVI which are priced at Rs.10 per copy, post free, for members. These volumes can be obtained from the Hon. Librarian in Calcutta. Mr. V. S. Risoe also holds a few spare copies in London.

9. DESPATC H OF THE JOURNAL

Responsibility for non -delivery of the Journal cannot be accepted if members do not notify their change of address. Considerable trouble is caused in re-addressing Journals returned, and duplicate copies cannot be sent, except on payment.

10. CHANGE OF ADDRESS

Members are requested to notify the Hon. Secretary promptly of any change ol address. If this Journal has not been correctly addressed, will you please advise the Hon. Secretary immediately of the alterations ?

11. CLUB TIES

Club ties are available with the Secretary in Calcutta—either teryl cue at Rs. 18 each or silk at Rs.12.50 each. Stocks of the terylenc tics are also available with Mr. V. S. Risoe in London.

12. STUDENT MEMBERSHIP

A new class of membership has been introduced recently for students. The Entrance Fee is Rs.10 and the Annual Subscription Rs.12. Application Forms can be obtained from the Hon. Secretary.

13. JOURNAL INDEX

Mr. D. F. O. Dangar has continued the good work of indexing the Himalayan Journal and the Index for Volume XXVI is being included with this Journal Should any member require copies of the previous Journal Index, they are available from either Mr. V. S. Risoe in London or the Hon. Librarian in Calcutta.
