An evening with adventure filmmaker Elia Saikaly

Talk description: Elia would take the audience on an audio-visual journey of about 60 minutes to the roof of the world along with storytelling of his journey of being there 8 times since 2005 and being a storyteller and cinematographer in the high mountains. The talk would be followed by a Q & A with the audience. There would be tons of photos and videos throughout the entire talk.

About the Speaker: Elia Saikaly is an award-winning adventure filmmaker whose global adventures inspire others to find their most meaningful life and spark positive change. With over 18 high-altitude expeditions under his belt, 8 on Mt. Everest, Elia has proven time and time again that he has the determination, stamina, skill, resourcefulness, and vision required to meet the greatest of challenges. Elia shows others how to find the courage and strength to live out their dreams, embrace the unknown and contribute to a better world in the process.

On May 22, 2013, Elia stood on top of the world for the second time. Not only did he climb to the summit of Mt. Everest, he shot a reality television series, On the Top, which garnered him a CINE Golden Eagle Award. He also shared the journey with thousands of students  in real time via FindingLife, an interactive school learning program he created that empowers and educates youth through adventure.

In 2014 and 2015, Elia survived the two deadliest seasons on Mt. Everest, which claimed the lives of over 30 climbers. He broke his back in a paragliding accident while piloting solo in Nepal and, against all odds, recovered after dragging himself off of a roof. Resilience, perseverance, post traumatic stress, and the power of the human spirit are but some of the themes that emerge that are explored though Elia’s experiences and presentations.

In 2019, Elia was on top of the world for a 3rd time, shooting a film about 4 Arab women, a story that intersected with one of the deadliest climbing season on record.

Elia recently co-starred in Discovery Canada’s Unclimbed: Reaching the Summit. His media appearances include CBS, NBC, CTV, CBC, BBC, Discovery, and many more. His most recent work, Everest: A Time-Lapse Short Film II, went viral and was shared online by news outlets around the world.

Elia spends much of his time working in partnership with charities, such as Moving Mountains Trust, Under the Same Sun and Child Haven International.
