The Himalayan Club Kekoo Naoroji Book Award - Criteria and Procedure for Submission

The Himalayan Club in association with Naoroji family and Godrej has set up a book award for the best book on the Himalaya. Kekoo Naoroji had a long association with the Himalayan Club and he served as President and Secretary in the past. The book award instituted in his name would be for a book published between 1st April and 31st March of every calendar year relating to any aspects of the Himalayan Mountains. The subjects can cover mountains, mountaineering, people, culture, environment, politics and any other related aspects.

A panel of Jury appointed by the Himalayan Club will decide the winner. Two copies of the book should be sent to the Himalayan Club for participating in the award. The award consists of Rs. 1,00,000/- (Approx US $ 1600 / £ 1000). The last date for submission of entries is 31st May and the award would be announced in the month of December.

Following are the general rules for The Himalayan Club Kekoo Naoroji Book Award:

  1. The award will be presented based on the following parameters.
    1. Content: Subject matter can cover any of the following topics - mountaineering, natural history, Culture, environment, exploration and other relevant interesting aspects (non-fiction) relating to the Himalaya including Karakoram, Hindu Kush and adjacent Tibet.
    2. Literary merit - The book should have lasting value.
  2. Two free copies of the book should be submitted.
  3. The book should be recently published and not more than 12 months old.
  4. The book received for review will go to the Himalayan Club Library.
  5. Decision of the judges will be final and binding.
  6. Award will be presented in the month of February.
  7. Only books in the English language will be considered.
  8. Books that have previously received an award will not be considered for this award, though an exception may be entertained in the case of an outstanding work, if the panel of judges strongly feels.
