Dear Mr. Kapadia,

I owe you a sincere apology. I am afraid I failed to respond to your circular letter asking for contributions to the 50th issue of the Himalayan Club Newsletter. I am so sorry. I could have submitted something - not very exciting I am afraid, but at least some thing. I promise to do better for the 100th issue!

I sincerely hope that you have received good articles from others to whom you wrote. I look forward to seeing the results.

May I take this opportunity of congratulating you on exploratory treks and climbs in the Himalaya, covered in the HJs. I always enjoy reading about them as it seems to me that you, more than any of your colleagues, have inherited that love of high mountain travel which many of us were lucky to have discovered during our time in India and I hope these accounts in the HJs. and the Newsletters will inspire other H.C. members to follow your example and perhaps uncover other hitherto undiscovered parts of the most wonderful mountain range in the world. General Charles Bruce (leader Everest 1922 and 1924) kindly gave me a copy of his book Himalayan Wanderer and wrote in it 'Leave the big ones alone - you will get more fun trekking through the unknown valleys." Invited to join the 1953 Everest expedition I did not heed his advice and accepted. Having also done a lot of trekking in Nepal I know what the General meant and I am sure you do too.

With best wishes,

Your sincerely,
Charles Wylie
