The Himalayan Club

The Himalayan Club was founded on 17th February 1928. And over the years it has gone on to become one of the world’s premier mountaineering club.

Most leading mountaineers in India and the world are its members and their collective achievements and experience of climbing new routes, exploring new places have gone a long way to enhance the prestige of the Club. The club’s activities attract young enthusiasts. And their tribe continues to grow.

The Himalayan Club has network of Hon. Local Secretaries world wide. They are the knowledgeable mountaineers who supply information to members in their respective countries and inform the Club about their activities. Himalayan Cub has many Hon. Local Secretaries in India, particularly in the Himalayan foot hills who continue to guide and help climbers there.

In Leh, it was our Hon. Local Secretary Motup Chewang who led the relief operations as the disaster struck. He and his team of volunteers ventured into inhospitable terrain, provided food and shelter to many of those who were rendered homeless.

Mr Chewang and his team of volunteers are the core team who are overlooking our project of rebuilding Kaya and Skui villages and the Leh Children’s hostel.
