The Cause - Leh Children's Home

Clear blue skies, stark beauty, ancient monasteries, rushing waters of the icy Indus, majestic snow clad peaks.
This is Ladakh - The Roof of the World and in the words of its guests, simply heaven.

On 5th Aug, 2010, disaster struck. This high-altitude desert, sheltered from rain by the Himalayas, was devastated by Flash Floods. Thousands of homes were destroyed, hundreds lost their lives with more missing and many more badly injured. Ladakh is coping as they brace themselves for a severe winter which is just around the corner.

We, the Himalayan Club, a fraternity of the lovers of the Great Himalayas, are committed to rebuild Ladakh. Driven by this goal we have undertaken two projects to prove that Ladakh is hit but not beaten.
Children's hostel in Leh

The hostel houses 63 students that come from remote regions of Ladakh. They come from economically weaker families and cannot afford their stay, fees, clothes, books etc. Therefore the hostel itself arranges for all their expenses through donations.

As a result of the sudden floods, the hostel building is damaged, with many of its walls collapsed, the entire toilet block washed away, 90% of the compound wall damaged and the entire compound is filled with several feet of mud and silt.

The students have been sent back to their homes since it is not possible to house them in these conditions and their education has to be stopped till the hostel can take them in again.

We aim to rebuild this institution which served the needy. It is a cause providing shelter, sustainence and education to the affected students and helping to rebuild the institution they once called home.
